What Do Handshake Miners Do?
Handshake uses a system called Proof of Work, where miners contribute computing power to help secure the network.
They process transactions and add new blocks to the Handshake blockchain.
Those transactions can include:
- bids and reveals in name auctions
- transfers of names
- updates to name records
- HNS transactions
- heartbeat transactions
Block after block, miners help keep the Handshake network moving.
What Do Miners Get in Return?
Mining requires computing power, equipment and electricity.
For doing this work and successfully mining blocks, miners can be rewarded with $HNS, along with transaction fees.
This provides an incentive for miners to continue contributing their resources and helping secure the network.
But there is an important distinction.
Being rewarded with $HNS doesn't give a miner ownership of your name.
Who Controls the Name?
You do.
Miners help secure and confirm transactions on the network, but they don't receive the private keys controlling your Handshake name.
They don't become your registrar.
They don't decide what you can do with your namespace.
Your name remains controlled by the wallet holding its private keys.
Behind Every Block
Most people using Handshake may never think about the miners working behind the network.
But every new block represents computing power being contributed to keep Handshake running and secure.
Miners can earn $HNS for doing that work.
