What is being collected? Who can see it? Where is it stored? But there is another important question: Who has control? ## Who Has Control Much of our digital life depends on someone else. Our accounts depend on platforms. Our websites depend on hosting providers. Our names depend on naming systems. Most of the time, this works well. But the rules can change. Access can be restricted. Services can disappear. And something we have used for years can suddenly work differently. ## What Does Your Name Represent A name online can represent a person, business, project or idea. Over time, that name becomes part of our digital identity. People recognise it, search for it, share it, trust it. But in most traditional systems, we do not fully control the system behind that name. We are given the right to use it while following someone else’s rules. Usually, we do not think about that. Until something changes. ## Privacy Is About Choice Privacy does not have to mean secrecy. It can simply mean having a choice. ⚪️ Choosing what you share. ⚪️ Choosing who you share it with. ⚪️ Choosing which services you rely on & ⚪️ Choosing how much control you keep for yourself. ## Another Way To Think About Names Handshake offers one example of a different naming model. A Handshake name can be held directly by its owner. Greater control also means greater responsibility. **What if the name itself could belong to you?** Not just permission to use it. Something you can actually control. ## Who Controls Your Digital Identity As more of our lives move online, privacy will become about more than protecting personal information. It will also be about understanding who controls the things we depend on. ⚪️ Our accounts. ⚪️ Our identities. ⚪️ Our data. ⚪️ Our names. So perhaps the question is no longer only: **Who knows who you are?** It is also: **Who controls the things that represent who you are?** Remember: Digital privacy starts with control. **Own The Name | Own The Rules | Own The Dot.**
